The Blackfish Café is the only floating restaurant in Victoria. We opened our doors in 1994, over the years we have transformed ourselves into one of Victoria's more casual dining locations, remaining in the hands of James Bay Inn Ltd. It is located in the hub of Victoria's Inner Harbour. There are 35 seats inside and another 40 outside on the heated, covered patio. Any closer to the water, and you're wet! Sit and enjoy the fully licensed, full service restaurant that has become one of Victoria's Best Kept Secrets!

The Blackfish Café is owned by Ric Allen, who is also general manager and partner of the James Bay Inn and Suites.

Executive chef Mike Pitre, is at the helm of the Blackfish Café. Having just stepped down as branch president of the Canadian Culinary Federation, Mike is an award winning the chef of the year award for Victoria, as well as twice receiving the Karl Breitschmid Award for his involvement in the Federation and the industry.
Mike began his career in the culinary arts at the young age of 14, bussing tables at a neighbourhood restaurant in Fredericton, New Brunswick. It was there that Mike met award-winning Chefs Klaus Reccha and Taso Markides, both later becoming good friends and mentors.
After starting an apprenticeship in New Brunswick, Mike decided it was time to discover the rest of the country and drove across Canada eventually arriving in Victoria, BC. Here he became serious, and earned an apprenticeship under award-winning Chef Martin Wilkinson at the Hotel Grand Pacific. There, Mike learned the fundamentals to move forward in the industry.
Mike is also the executive chef at the James Bay Inn and has been with the company for 7 years and has plans of working towards building a catering business and production business for his ever-popular sauces and dressings.
